Christmas in Snowy WA

The first picture should be a picture of the snow but now it is almost all melted. But in the previous blog Barb took a picture of the Christmas cactus and you can see the snow in the back yard through the window.



Jerry took these Christmas pictures and he finally got to open some presents Barb was passing out presents and watching everyone else so she didn't take any pictures.

We are watching Kaven open his tonka truck present. From Left to right is Scott our son-in law, Gabby our granddaughter, Steve our son, the backs of Holly, Cameron & Kim's heads you will see their faces in some of the other pictures.

Teresa our daugter and Scott son-in law, Jenny our granddaughter in pink sweater her fiance Shane in the rocking chair, Holly's daughter Jordon on the floor with Kaven our great grandson which is Jenny's son.

Here we have left to right Gabby (granddaughter) Steve and Holly his fiance, Holly's daughter Jordan and Kameron her boyfriend and half of Kim's head our daughter. Barb told you that we had pictures of the faces of the people where we only had the back of their head. In this small space it is hard to do photography.

Here is Kim and her fiance Ray and baby Noelani. We finally got a full picture of Kim not the back of her head or just half of her head.

This picture is of Holly and Cameron with our great grand children Nevaeh and Kaven which is Jenny's childrens and Holly's grandchildren.

This is our little Christmas tree with just a few presents, after all 16 people got at our house you could not even see the tree for presents. Also as you could see in these pictures we were wall to wall in our little living room. We have a 1600 square foot townhouse but the living room is way to small. Maybe we have to much furniture. Jerry would like to get rid of the intertainment center and get a big screen tv but Barb is not sure if that is the answer. Well Santa didn't bring him one so he will have to wait tell next year.

All in all we had a great time but because of the three snow storms that come in we did not get to spend as much time with the family as we would have liked to .

WINTER WONDER LAND IN SEATTLE

The Christmas Cactus that is a start from my mother's plant and it is blooming beautiful this year for the first time. I started it two years ago from a leaf from her plant that we took to her funeral.


Saturday Dec 20th here we are having a Lefsa making party. A task for every one.

Guess we will have a white Christmas this year. There was snow on the ground when we landed at the airport and it has snowed twice since.

Haven't been able to do much since we arrived in Auburn because the weather has been so nasty.

It will be great holidays anyway we are here with out children and we hope they can make it to our house for Christmas Day.

TWO WEEKS TELL CHRISTMAS! Help!!!!!!!!!!

Hope we are ready for the big day looks like we only have two weeks to get things done. We have to shop, bake, decorate hopefully we can make it all happen in that short period of time.

We fly in to WA on Monday Dec 15 and we will be going non stop for a few days after we get there.

We went to a Christmas concert at our club house this past Tuesday. There is a group of individuals that like to sing and do concerts. They do a Christian one in the spring.

Tonight we are going with some friends to a big Christmas concert north of Scottsdale. It is at a very large church. Our friends go almost every year and have invited us to join them so we am excited about that. At least we will get to hear some Christmas carols. All my tapes are in WA.

There is a lot of houses already decorated and it looks so nice. Guess we should put up some one of these years even if we aren't here. We think we have a box of decorations in the attic but am not sure kinda loose track of what is where we have moved so much.


Barb does have the Christmas cards all sent so that is a good thing.

Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving to all:

Talked to all the childrens today which was fun. We are going to Barb's sister's house for dinner she likes to cook the traditional dinner. Barb had to make deviled eggs and a bottle of wine think she got off pretty easy. They are upset with Barb she is in AZ and they are in WA and no Lefsa for Thanksgiving day. We will make sure we have it for Christmas.

Golfed yesterday only 9 holes that was enough as bad as we both golfed. There is good days and bad days. Just wished they all could be good.

Barb won money bowling this past Tuesday there was a deal depending on your average low average individuals had to get 9 pins in a row. Barb is low average so she got 3 dollars. High average individuals had to get three strikes in a row which is a Turkey and then they got 3 dollars. No she is not going to invest it in the stock market they will just take it a way from her. Maybe go to Starbucks a better investment.

Time Flies When You Are Having Fun

Guess it is time Barb updates this blog again. Last report was on Thursday November 6.

On Friday Nov 7, Jerry's cousin Jill & Lydell come over for dinner and we had a nice evening visiting about what we all had been doing during the summer.

Saturday there was a community garage sale so the neighbor next door had a few things and we had a few things so we put it out on their drive way. Nancy and Barb took the golf cart and did a little shopping. Rich and Jerry sold the goodies. Then when the gals got back the guys cruised around. By noon it was all over. Then Jerry planted a few cactus in the front yard it is surprising the little ones that shoot out from the roots of the big ones so you just cut the root and stick them in the ground some place else and they grow.

Barb said she was not cooking so we went to the IN & OUT Burger for dinner.

Sunday Barb worked on the East Coast Tour book & Jerry watched football and that was about it for the day.

Monday Barb bowled, Jerry went for a golf lesson.

Tuesday Barb golfed in the morning and bowled in the afternoon.

Wednesday Jerry and Barb golfed in the afternoon.

Thursday evening we invited a couple we met on our East Coast trip over to join us for dinner and then go to our club house to a Country Jubilee concert. Barb's sister Diselle also joined us for dinner and concert it was a very fun evening.

Barb worked at the Mesa Flea Market today and the rest of this week end as the couple she works for was at a craft show at Fountain Hills.

Life is good and we are keeping busy.

What Has Been Happening in AZ

We seem to be keeping busy. Barb bowls Monday am and Tuesday golfs in the am and bowls in the pm. Jerry started today golfing with the 18 holers he met some new guys and two of them was from WA. We golf together at least once a week.

Got the palm trees trimmed and the two fruit trees trimmed. We took out a couple of overgrown bushes and a sour orange tree that had thorns on it basically it was good for nothing. Then we did some pruning and cutting back of some of the other little stuff so the yard is in pretty good shape right now. Plannted some annuals in pots this week so it is looking pretty good.

The window washers were here today so did some more cleaning can't believe the dirt and dust that gets in the house. It drives Barb crazy that you could dust several times a day and it just keeps looking dusty.

The Sun Bird community is having a garage sale this week end our neighbor wants us to bring stuff to their garage.

Barb has been working on a scrape book from our trip.

Guess this is all the excitement since the last posting.

Teresa's Request

It was suggested I do my third folder and the third picture. This is Teresa holding her new niece who is about two or three weeks old.

They sure do grow up fast at least tell they are teen agers. Haha just kidding.

First week in AZ

We been here a week and a busy week it has been. Lots of cleaning up to do and the golf cart batteries were dead and had to be replaced. The hot water heater had a slow leak and had to be replaced when we arrived we had no hot water.

All is repaired and most of the cleaning up is done. We have to have someone come and trim the trees and the palm trees. The association makes sure that every one keeps their palm trees are kept up. So tomorrow we have someone coming in to do that. Then I will get the window washer in here and get them done.

Barb started Bowling today and will be bowling two days a week. We golfed 18 holes today it was low ninties but the wind was blowing so didn't feel to bad out there. We didn't golf to bad either since we hadn't golfed only a couple times and went to the driving range maybe 6 times so felt pretty good about that.

On The Road to AZ

Friday Oct 17:

We left Branson at seven am and traveled through Missouri and on to Oklahoma and stopped mid way through at El Reno a KOA along the free way so that is always a good thing. No big things to write about this day.

Jerry started coming down with the cold soar throat bug that many in our caravan had and Barb had it just before we left for Branson.

I am playing catch up on my blog because I did not have internet service in Oklahoma or New Mexico.

Saturday Oct 18:

Again we got on the road at 7am and we stopped early afternoon. Jerry wasn't feeling real good and the wind was blowing pretty hard so decided to stop as there was no advertised camp grounds tell we would get to Albuqueque and that would mean we had to drive at least 4 more hours and we already had drove over 300. No internet so Barb was bored and played games on the computer. TV was poor also.

One high light of Barbs day was she got to take a picture of the largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere. We were traveling through Texas I think. Barb is getting good at taking pictures out the side window while we are traveling 60 miles an hour down the road.

Sunday Oct 19:

On the road again. Left Tucumcari NM at 7am and drove over 400 miles today. Jerry is feeling a tiny bit better. We are now in Winslow AZ which is 36 miles east of Flaggstaff. Jerry is feeling a lot better write now he is in the recreation room watching the Seahawks on Sunday night football. Don't get many channels in the coach.

Monday Oct 20th we will be in Chandler by noon or so. Yeh it has been two months since we left Auburn. Great trip but Barb is ready to get to cleaning house (just kidding). She do miss walking every morning and getting some excercise though. We are anxious to start golfing again also.

Fifth Day In Branson

Thursday Oct 16:

Well to day is our last day in Branson. We went to a comedian show this morning he is a Russian and his name is "Yokov Smirnoff" it was good.

Our new friends from Alturas, CA (which is in the Reno) come to our park to see us. We met them on our Tour of the East Coast. They winter in Mesa AZ. We had lunch with them so that was good to see them again. They got here on Tuesday and are traveling with another couple and are staying in a different park. We will probably get together with them in AZ as they like to play cards and so do we.

Seeings we will be on the road on Jerry's birthday I told him we would go out and celebrate his birthday today. We ate at a restaurant by the lake where we are staying. There is a fire and water show by this restaurant so that will be neat to see while we are eating dinner.

This wraps up Branson Missouri and we have had a great time but need to move on. We are anxious to get back to AZ so we can golf and do some other fun things.

Day Four in Branson

Wednesday Oct 15:

Today we had to get going because we had a 10:00 am show we seen the "Doug Cabriel Show" it is a family musical. Husband, wife and three children. It was a good show. Then we picked up the tickets for our show this evening which is "The Oak Ridge Boys" at 8:00 pm.

We got back to the coach about 1pm and ate some lunch and resting and then out to have a bite to eat before the show. Lots of home cook restaurants here guess they cadder to the old people. The prices are good also. You can get a meal for 8.99 which is good compared to the east coast we couldn't hardly get a glass of water for that. We can eat all day in Branson for what we bought a sandwich in NY for.

This pretty much will wrap up our day here. We sure have been on a much slower pace the last few days even though we been seeing alot of shows.

You All Take Care Now I am really getting into this south drawl haha.

Day Three In Branson

Tuesday Oct 14:

Well today we started out by going to a IMAX theater to watch rafting down the Colorado River to the Grand Cannon. Jerry has been talking to a friend about taking that trip. I think he still wants to even though this film gave a big picture of the trip. Barb is not interested at all. It was foggy and misting when we got up so decided we might have to change our planned activities. When we come out of the IMAX it was sunny. We had been seeing these Ride The Duck mobiles and then we seen them go into the water. Jerry thought it would be fun so we decided since it was not raining we should go. So we did what a experience. We toured for a hour and half riding through Branson entertainment district and the Ozarks and then splashed into the Table Rock Lake and road around a small island and then back onto land back to where we got on this car/ boat.

In the evening at 7:30 we went to The Shoji Tabuchi Show, a family entertainment show. Very good show.

Day Two in Branson Missouri

Monday Sept 13:
The chicks are saying this trip is boring as Jerry and Barb have been to busy to include them in much of the activity. Now Arch and Saw are hiding in the back seat of the Jeep because they know they are close to Arkansas and don't want to end up in the freezer there.

Today we traveled around the Branson area and spent some time in old down town Branson and they also have a new strip mall called Branson Landing is runs along the Lake Taneycomo which is a lake that is controlled by a dam. The RV park we are staying in is also right along this lake. Jerry walks down to talk to the fisherman to see if they are catching any fish.

In the evening we went to a concert called SIX they are six brothers who sing with pure harmonies, great vocal ranges, toe-tapping rhythms and singing so robust you would think it is a full band. No, just human voices. They were highly recommended to us.

That pretty much wraps up our second day in Branson.

Arrived Branson Missouri

Sunday Oct 12:

We arrived Branson Missouri today about 12:00 noon. Sunny, warm, & humid here and looks like fall here lots of leaves laying around. We are parked in a RV park next to a lake and also just a few blocks from down town Branson. However that is not where all the shows are and it is nothing like Jerry and Barb pictured. We had it pictured like more of a Las Vegas setting but it is a strip with theaters mixed with lots of motels, restaruants, and other businesses. You may drive a mile between the place the shows are being performed.

We was able to get a show in last night "The Legends In Concert" the impersinators were Garth Brooks, Tina Turner, The Blues Brothers and Lia Minnelli.



Jerry wanted his picture taken with The Blues Brothers so here he is sitting between them. It is not the best picture as I had to take it with my cell phone. I did not have my camera with me because we thoutht you couldn't take pictures which is normally the case. But you could during intermission.

Traveling On To Branson Missouri

Saturday October 11:
We traveled from Milton, West Virginia to Straton Missouri which is just west of St Louis. 10 hour day but we gained back one of our hours. We have been 3 hours later and that has been a problem for Barb to communicate with family on the west coast.


As we were traveling through St Louis Jerry said Barb get a picture of the piece arch. Well here Barb is trying to make sure we are on the right freeway because the roads are changing constantly and the lady on the GPS is barking orders and Barb is trying to listen to her and take a picture going 60 miles an hour down the road but it didn't turn out to bad.

The above two pictures Barb took out the window early in the morning today the colors was so pretty. This is the site we have had ever since we left Williamsburg, VA. The pictures didn't turn out to bad as they were taken out the side window of the motor home as we are traveling 60 miles an hour down the road. It is not a easy task when a truck passes by you just when you snapped the picture and you missed what you really wanted to take the picture. All in all we have a lot of pictures.

Leaving the East Coast

Friday October 10:

After our Caravan leaders fed us a continental breakfast we left the camp site at 7:30 am. We traveled 400 miles in Milton West Virginia. It was such a beautiful drive the trees have starte to show much color.



This picture is of the capital of West Virginia which is in the town of Charleston.

Barb snapped this picture while we were driving down the road you can see the color of the trees. The trees are just starting to change real deffinate colors. In some areas we were going through mountains so you had a much broader view of the colors. It was nice to get out in more wide open spaces as we have been pretty much been tucked in city areas with lots of trees.

Day Twenty Five of Our Historical East Coast Tour

Thursday Oct 9:
Today we visited the Jameston Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center and also a Williamsburg winery and in the evening was our farewell dinner of our Caravan Tour.

Williamsburt was founded in 1607 and was the first permenent English settlement in America. Lots of museum material, a film of that time, a outdoor living history of the area.

This picture was the first construction and it was the church and the orginal foundation of the original church is on display at the side of the pews.

From this area we went on to the Williamsburg winery for a wine tasting and a tour of the winery.

From there we went on to Yorktown which was the victory center of the revelutionary war. A long day and a lot of history crammed in the brain in two days.


This is our farewell dinner Jerry was taking the picture. The lady in the pink we become good friends with her and her husband they were our tailgunners they had the responsibility of always leaving the camp grounds last so they could help anyone that had trouble. Also they helped the wagonmaster couple count heads when we went on bus tours so no one got left behind. We really liked our leaders they did a great job.

That ends our East Coast Tour and wow we learned more history than we ever learned in school maybe we should have took this tour when we were in school haha. Maybe we would have got A+ in History.

Day Twenty Four Of Our Historical Easst Coast Tour

Wednesday Oct 8:
Today Jerry and I toured the Colonial Williamsburg which is a historical living town where individals do a inactment of what times were like in the 1770's. The town is 1 mile long so lots of shops of where they made shoes, wigs, bakery, taverns and many many more business. We spent 8 hours there and must have walked 5 miles.

We went to visit the Courthouse where they do a live inactment of a court hearing back in the 1700's. They took 14 people out of the audience called justice's acting as jouriers which was selected by the King of England. Then they choose 4 people out of the audience two to be witness and then the defendent and the plantiff. They did two cases. Jerry was chosen to be part of the Justice.

This is the court house from the outside. Only a certain number could get in the court room.

This is a piano that Governer Patrick Henry played it was in the Govern's palace. Barb wonders how her grand daughter Gabby would like to take lessons on this.

At 5pm they do the final enactment for the day and it is where the army is fighting to keep the British from taking over the Williamsburg area. The top picture is where the soldiers marched in and there is a cannon off to the right. General Washington and Mr Lafayatte come in support the solders that if they went to battle they would win. In the second picture you will see where they are at war and shooting off their guns and the cannon.

Another great history lesson day.

Day Twenty Three of Our Histrorical East Coast Tour

Tuesday October 7:

Today was another travel day we only drove 51 miles and are now in Williamsburg, VA. We will be her for 3 days and that will end our East Coast Tour. What a wonderful trip we seen and touched more history than ever imagined.

We will be touring Williamsburg VA now for the next three days which has a lot of history also.

Made a trip to Wall Mart to stock up on a few items. I guess I won't complain about the cost of groceries in WA in MA, NY, NJ and etc it was rediculous the price on some things. We shopped very little when we were there.

We wish all our family and friends well and in two and half weeks we will be in AZ.

Day Twenty Two of Our Historical East Coast Tour

Monday Sept 6:

Today was a travel day from College Park , MD to Richmond VA. Then this afternoon we toured the Museum of the Confederacy White House. It was a house of Jefferson Davis who was president and where he had his office during the Civil War.

Our tours are winding down as we end the 26 day tour. Plus about half of the 36 individuals have come down with a flue bug soar throat and cold like so many plus Barb don't feel up to par. I sure all confined in the bus with sick people help spread it much faster even the bus driver was sick. Also the weather has went from warm, to rainy, to cold and now back to temps in the high 70's low 80's so we have been through many weather changes.

Day Twenty One Of our Historical East Coast Tour

Sunday October 5:

Today was a free day so we could go back to WA DC to the Smithsonian Institution which is a area of all kinds of Museums.

Jerry and Dick Jerry's new friend wanted to go to Gettesburg so they left at 5:30 am. It is about two hours from where we are located at the present time.

Barb and Jolene and another couple went together to the museum area. We saw Air & Space, The Natural History, and then on to Holocaust Memorial Museum. There was about 9 others you would have to spend weeks here to see them all. We left at 8:30 and took the subway to this area so that was an experience in itself. Most people us this daily.

Day Twenty of Our Historical East Coast Tour

Saturday Oct 4:
We took a motorcoach tour to WA DC, we boarded the bus at 8:30 and arrived back at 10:30 long day.
We viewed the White house through a iron fence. Then we traveled on through out area to the Lincoln Memorial and Washington National Monument, then on to the war monuments, Thomas Jefferson memorial, & drove by the capital, then on to the Washington National Cathedral. We were then dropped off at a historic town Alexandria Virginia and we had 3 hours to have dinner and shop around all the little shops in this area waiting for it to get dark so we could go on our Illumination tour at 7pm. Our illumination tour consisted of driving to the Penagon memorial from 9-11, Franklin Delenore Roosevelts monument, Air Force memorial. Some of these sites we just drove by some we got out and toured the area. We were on and off the bus so many times I think we wore the seats out haha.

This picture is of the white house which we got out and went as far as the iron fence. Barb took this picture with the hands through the fence.

This is a picture of the capatal we just drove by this building. You notice on the right there is a building where the House of Representative meets and on the left the white building is where the senate meets.

This Thomas Jeffersons memorial Barb took it from accross the patomic river. He stands in the center of this memorial and looks towards the Captial. We got out at this memorial.

This is the Lincoln memorial there is a statue of him sitting looking out toward the Washington National Monument where you see the three openings through the pillars. We got out and climbed up the stairs or took the elevator to the top.

This is a picture of the Washington National Cathedral. This is the 6th largest on the earth. It took 83 years to build it was started in 1907 and finished 1990. This cathedral is operated on
donations only. There are 231 stain glass windows in the cathedral. Ronald Reagans funeral and many other famous people. Billy Graham, Martin Luther King, spoke here. Much more information we had a tour guide so that was very helpful.

This picture is at Alexandria Viarginia where we had dinner. It was located on the water so had a great view and food.

Day Nineteen of Our Historical East Coast Trip

Friday Oct 3rd:

Today we took a motorcoach tour to Baltimore, MD. Part of this city is newer in the historic section because in 1904 80 blocks of the town burned down. From there we went to Fort McHenry another battle ground in the revolutionary war. The on a drive thru Federal Hill area where it overlooks the bay. There are 13 colleges here and much cheaper to live than NY. Our tour guide was from NY and he said he will never go back because it is much more afordable to live in MD. Then we went on to the Harbour and had lunch and enjoyed the shopping on the harbour.

The above two pictures is of Fort McHenry battle field and hill. Most of us did not even know the history of this but at this sight is where the British was trying to take over the city of Baltimore through the Patapsco River . They got within 2.5 miles from the harbour and we took them on and one the war. Also at this site after we won the battle is where Francis Scott Key wrote THE Star Spangled Banner and where our flag still flew. We watched a short film on the story of this and then toured the army camp here. Where you see the flag flying there was area inside the brick walls where they did a flag raising ceremony. However, some of us had already left the area. The ranger who was waiting for a school to come to show them the ceremoney decided to do the ceremony shortly after we left because it was a hour pass the time it was to be done. Jerry & some of our group was there and got to participate in holding the flag. I felt real bad I did not get a picture but some one else got it so I will get a copy from them. Jerry said it was a awsome deal and also to get to participate. Jerry actually got to help with the bringing the flag down and folding the flag and then the putting the new flag up.

We arrived home at 3:00 pm and now are getting ready for another long day tomorrow.

Day Eighteen of Our Historical East Coast Tour

Thursday Oct 2:

Each day we think we have seen the top of the day but yesterday was even better. We took a bus tour to WA DC and Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and then on to Mt Vernon. A 9 hour day and many pictures and memories that you can't imagine you would ever be a part of. We traveled through heavy traffic but finally got to WA DC and drove by some of the government buildings and we were on the back side of the White House.

I shared that in Boston and NY the houses are side by side and were all brick. Well in WA DC the are still side by side but you can see they are painted different colors or the trim on the brick ones are painted different colors. This is how they distinquish their homes in this city.





This is a picture of the White House from the bus as we are driving to Arlington Cemetary.





We stopped at the Iwo Jima memorial monument where we had soldiers holding up our flag after a bloody battle.







Our second stop was at J.F. Kennedy's grave and you can see the eternal flame burning. Also Jaqueline and their two babies are burried beside him here. Hers on the right and the babies one on each side. In the back ground you see General Robert E Lee's house . Our tour guide shared that JFK had brought a individual from another country to this sight two weeks before he was assassinated and he had said to this gentleman I just love this view from here and I could spend the rest of my life here. Two weeks later he was assassinated and buried here his wife remembered what he said.



We then went on and stopped at Robert E Lee's house and toured it he owned or was inherited this property. By tradition American Military cemeteries developed from the duty of commanders on the frontier and in battle to care for the casualties. When Civil War casualties overflowed hospitals and aburial grounds near WA, DC Quarter master General Montgomery Meigs proposed in 1864 that 200 acres of the Robert E Lee family property at Arlington be taken for a cemetery. Since then 60 more acres have been purchased. There is a certain criteria in order to be buried there. They figure by 2026 it will be full.

Then the most touching part of our tour was when we got to see the changing of the guards where the unnamed solders who lost their lives are buried and it is guarded 24 hours. What a awsome ceremony. I am standing at the left hand corner of this picture so I am so close it was awsome. In addition after the changing of the guards we got to watch a ceremony where they honored a family of a loved one and changed the wreath that is put there every day with the one from this family.

We traveled on to Mount Vernon to the home of George and Martha Washington. It was a great tour also. George inherited a small 4 room house from his brother who died and then he built a second floor and a wing on each side and a huge deck across the back that over looked the patomic river.

This is the first tomb that they are buried in on this property to the right of their house and down the hill.

We saw a great short film of him fighting in the french and british war and then when he met Martha who was a widow lost her husband in war and she had two children.
